THE VINTAGE: By all accounts, the quality of grapes in 2022 was exceptional across the board. Unfortunately, the 2022 crop was small, producing on average, just 50% of the yield of previous years. Vintage dated wines from 2022 will be highly sought-after for both their quality and scarcity. Wine outlook for the 2022 vintage is excellent.

'Meritage', is a combination of the words 'merit' and 'heritage'. 'Merit' was chosen to reflect the quality of the grapes while 'Heritage' was chosen to recognize the centuries-old blending process that was involved in making the wine. This wine is a celebration blend of our best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon (39%), Cabernet Franc (39%) and Merlot (22%).

This complex Meritage is crafted from premium estate grown grapes from Kacaba’s benchland property. All grapes were harvested using a combi­nation of hand-harvesting and machine pick optimising a state-of-the-art optical sorting machine. All fruit underwent a gentle destem before being crushed, thereafter fruit underwent a cold soak for 4 days before inoculation with select Bordeaux yeast strains. Punch-downs and pump-overs were conducted 2- 4 times daily to enhance colour and fruit char­acteristics. Each varietal was vinified, and barrel matured separately for 17 months in fine French and American oak barrels. Winemaker, Chris Robinson carefully selected the final blend after tasting each barrel and selecting the best barrels to create this epic Bordeaux style bend.
