One of the best Meritage blends crafted in the 2007 Vintage this wine is a testament to the future of Bordeaux blends here in Niagara. In 2011 The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario announced the launch of the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines. Its aim was to promote Ontario viticulture and wine making, this awards program recognises and honours VQA Ontario wines that are made from 100% Ontario-grown and processed grapes. In this unique competition, all wines compete against each other, with eight to 12 being chosen for their excellence, regardless of vintage or varietal. In 2012, a total of 258 wines were submitted from 73 wineries. Adjudication was conducted by 14 of Ontario's leading wine experts and sommeliers. The eleven winning wines derive from one of Ontario's most concentrated wine appellations. Ontario's various terroir conditions support balanced, complex, and elegant wines. Kacaba Vineyards 2007 Meritage was among the wines selected in 2012 and was presented with the award by the Lieutenant Governor himself.
